Couples counselling

Couples counselling is a different skill to individual counselling, which is why couples need a therapist specifically trained in relationship work. As well as my diplomas in individual counselling and psychotherapy, I have completed a two-year diploma in couple counselling.

I work with couples experiencing difficulties such as:

  • finding it difficult to resolve conflict

  • dealing with an affair or other betrayal

  • depression

  • lacking intimacy or passion

  • sexual problems

  • jealousy

  • difficult relationships with children.

    How I work with couples

As a therapist working from a soulful perspective, I offer both practical support and suggestions as well as looking at what the couple's difficulty may be saying about the deeper needs of the relationship. Often the problems we find in our adult relationships are, to a degree, a re-playing of earlier experiences from childhood. A holistic approach can deal with present challenges in the relationship, past hurts and the possible future potential for the couple.

I encourage both partners to be honest with each other in sessions and make sure the needs and feelings of each are heard and acknowledged. By taking the risk of saying what they really want and feel, and by risking conflict with their partner, something new and more intimate can often emerge.
